Peter & The Wolf @ Emo's, 2/22/2006

I'd been pretty excited about this show for quite a while now, what with all Red's myspace hyping of it as well as the promise of a "20-piece hobo orchestra" that would be accompanying him on stage.

So, was it worth all the excitement? Hell yes it was. Seriously, how often do you get to see 20+ people cram onto the inside stage at Emo's (or any venue, for that matter)? Answer: Never. All I can say is that I truly feel lucky to have witnessed this spectacle, as it was something uniquely special. See for yourself:

Red and the orchestra, in full

Red, doing his thing

That's Bill Baird from Sound Team in the crazy orange farmer getup

Red, working the Jedi mind trick on the guitar

Members of the orchestra, unleashing the fury on various
maracas, pots, pans, trashcans, etc.

That's one trippy drum head

I believe this girl to be the official other half of Peter and the Wolf.
She plays great ukelele and has a beautiful voice.

Peep all 47 (!) shots I took of the show at my flickr page.

After the show, Red was selling handmade, pre-recorded copies of the show's setlist. Naturally, I had to have one for the artwork alone (picture coming soon), not to mention the great tunes. Five bones well spent.

So, the moral of this post is to go see Peter & The Wolf ASAP, whenever/wherever you can. You will be very happy that you took the time.

Lastly, before I forget, go check out Red's blog here. He's funny as hell and likes The Black Angels, so go on... do it!

That's a mandolin, not a ukelele.
